Richard Shindell

South of Delia Reviews

USA Today

Richard Shindell, South of Delia * * * * (4/4)
Cover story: The expatriate folk singer gives voice to a dozen songs
narrated by the displaced and the uprooted, or those just overtaken by
wanderlust. Shindell does amazing things with Peter Gabriel's Mercy
Street and The Band's Acadian Driftwood, but some of his most insightful
performances come with older or lesser-known material, including
Argentine folk rocker Leon Gieco's Solo le Pido a Dios (I Only Ask of
God) and Scottish singer Harry Robertson's The Humpback Whale, with
Richard Thompson on guitar.
Knockout knockoffs: Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA, the Carter
Family's The Storms Are on the Ocean. - Mansfield
